Work Pants

My husband worked at a steel mill for 34 years. Every year he would get an allotment of green flame resistant pants and navy blue shirts. A few months ago he received his last allotment before they forced him to take early retirement. So we had quite a few new pants and shirts hanging around. He is going to use the shirts but who wants to wear green pants if you don't have to? :) So, he was going to give them away or take them to Goodwill. I got to thinking 'why not try to sell them?' so I looked them up online and in stores they can go for as high as $60 each! Ebay didn't have a whole lot listed so I wasn't sure what would happen. I just figured if I could make a little on them it would be better than nothing! I listed 3 pair starting at $29.95. I had 2 watchers and just 1 bidder so they sold yesterday for the $29.95 plus shipping. I made $25.44 profit after fees and shipping! Glad we didn't get rid of those! I have 2 more listed right now that are different size and then I still have 5 more pair to list. I hope I can do as well on them and soon!

Paid - nothing - Sold for $29.95 - Profit $25.44

Yesterday was a busy day...as are most days around here! I took one of my daughters to work and then of course I had to stop at Goodwill. I found a gray leather jacket from Midnight Velvet for half price so it was $2.69. I couldn't look it up on my phone while there because it wouldn't connect to the internet so I took a chance. I figure a leather coat will surely sell, won't it? I looked it up when I got home and I would think I could get at least $25 for it. I need to get it listed today. My daughter and I worked on the kitchen cabinets. I think it will take us forever! I also didn't get any before pictures because she got the cabinets doors taken off before I even thought of it and the insides of the cupboards aren't a pretty site! I just organized them a couple of weeks ago but apparently no one knows how to put things away neatly around here! We are painting the bottom cupboards red...bubble gum red. I liked it when we painted one door to check out the color. I'm not so sure I'm going to like all of them painted red! To me the gallon that we bought looks way darker than the little sample paint that we got. Looking at both paints in their can even looks different. So, I'm wondering if someone in the paint department doesn't know what they're doing! I guess it's still hard to tell if I'm going to like it or not when the cupboard fronts are off and then we don't have the top ones done yet. We are painting them an off-white. I wanted black knobs but it would get way too expensive to buy new so my daughter bought glossy black and spray painted one handle to see if we'd like it. I was thinking I wanted a flat black but I did like the glossy look on the cupboard door. But, I got to thinking about it and thought that maybe with all the cupboards we have that it would be too much to have that many glossy black handles so I bought a can of flat black spray paint and I really like that a lot better. Hopefully we can get done in the few days and I can at least share finished pictures!

Yesterday I fell way short on my goal of listing $100/day. I only listed 3 vintage table runners in my Etsy shop for a whopping total of $15.00! Probably won't get a whole lot listed today either.

Well, I'm off! Thanks for stopping by! ~~Pam

  1. I've heard that work clothes are a good seller. Stuff by Dickies and other brands. If he has some used in good shape you might want to list those too. You could list the used in a lot since I assume they are all the same size. Great find :) I love the color combination you chose. I'm sure it will take a little time to get used to but I bet it's going to look great.

    1. I should have looked at his used pants better before we threw them out but his always looked pretty bad....grease stains, holes from sparks flying and such so I guess I figured I didn't want to mess with them. And yes, I'm hoping the kitchen will look great! ~~Pam

    1. Ha! I'm not brave Lorraine....just crazy! This whole house project got started because we had a hole in the family room floor that I wanted my son to fix! One of my sisters said she'd help so she did the family room and we are working on the living and dining room (which are pretty much done), and the kitchen! Brittany (the daughter that is helping me) and I came up with the brilliant idea of painting all the cupboards because they are cheaper mobile home quality cupboards (we live in a big double wide) and we've lived here almost 17 years and they really needed some sprucing up. I just CAN'T WAIT till it's all done because I HATE big projects like this! It's hard enough to just keep up with the basic everyday things so I've been feeling really off kilter lately! I know it'll be great when it's done though so I have to keep that thought going through my head! Sorry to make my reply to you another whole post! :) Thanks for reading! ~~Pam

  3. Woo, woo money in the closet. Love it. I "found" a Sony walkman the other day in a box of stuff I needed to list and it sold in less than 12 hrs. That's like finding money laying around, or in the closet. Good job!! I can't wait to see the finished cabinets.

  5. I've had good luck selling fire resistant shirts on eBay that I've found at the Goodwill. I've sold five within the last year all for over $25 a piece (all Bulwark brand). So these have always been on my BOLO list. Thanks for the read, I really enjoy everything!

    1. Wow! Sounds like you've done well with them! I'm probably selling mine way too cheap but we need the money so bad I guess I'm willing to sell faster than higher....which probably doesn't make any sense at all! Thanks for your comment! ~~Pam
