Cleaning Up with Cookbooks

My house renovation is coming along slowly but surely...well....it's going more slowly than surely! Anyway, I need to clean out my cookbook cupboard. I have way too many that I never even look at. Anymore, if I want a recipe I google it....seems so much faster! After reading Dude's blog post about his good sale with this cookbook I remembered I had found one at a yard sale a couple of years ago. It was in great shape when I bought it but I think after being shoved in my cupboard it got just a little bit rough around the edges! These cookbooks go for anywhere between $20-$50 with one even going for $89.99 recently! Since mine had a little bit of roughness on the spine and it also had one page with a small tear that I had taped I thought I would just put it at "Buy it Now" for $39.95 w/free shipping. It sold within a few hours. Then I second guess myself and wonder if I could have gotten a bit more! Oh well, it's money in our pocket now!
Paid $1.00 - Sold for $39.95 w/free shipping - Profit $30.00

Free (gift from my sister...thanks Naomi!)
Sold for $10.00 - Profit $7.66

Yesterday my goal was to list at least $200 worth of new stuff and I did it! I listed $212.75 minimum...might be a bit more if a couple of items I put at auction go for more. I am going to try really hard to list $200 worth every day this month. I would love to (need to) sell $100 worth every day so I figure I need to at least twice that much...probably need to list $500 worth a day to get $100/day but I don't have that much inventory, or at least my inventory isn't worth that much! So yesterday I sold 2 items totaling $49.95 so I didn't make it but hopefully it will all even out. My husband did shovel snow for 3 different places (we had a big snow storm...got 5 inches at least!) and he made $180 so together we made $229.95 so I will figure that together we made enough for 2 days of my goal! :) I'm hoping I can sell some jars real soon!

Well, I better be getting busy if I'm going to list another $200 worth....I've only gotten $22 worth listed so far!

Thanks for stopping by! ~~Pam

  1. I think you did great with the cookbook, I do know what you mean though when something sells that fast I always second guess myself too. That is grea your hubby was able to earn extra shoveling snow!

  2. Nice sale on the cookbook. I keep my eyes open for that one. Never found one yet.
I listed my P90X DVD set on new year's day for $99.95 with free shipping. I probably could have gotten $125, but there were others that were never used at that price. Mine was used so I priced it lower knowing it would sell and it did in just a few hours. No regrets. Now is the time to sell anything exercise or diet related.

    1. Great sale for you! Thanks for the idea about exercise stuff! That reminds me that I have a program that I only used about once that I just might list today! ~~Pam

  3. I only keep track of the number of items I list in a month, not the value of the items I've listed, but many times I have thought that it would be a better way to go, a better goal to have. Harder to keep track of, though. :-) Happy 2014!

    1. I don't know which way is a better way to go but I need to try to hold myself accountable to something! I have also tried to list so many things a day but I never really stuck to a certain amount. Thanks for your comment! ~~Pam

  5. I've never found the Pie Cookbook either. That's what some people call it. Good find and sale. And I think your goal is good. It's good to have a specific goal in mind.

    1. Thanks Nancy! Yes, I need to have some kind of goal...I think I am easily distracted and fall by the wayside too many times! I'm not sure if I have enough inventory to accomplish $200 a day though but I'm gonna give it a shot! ~~Pam
