What is This?

I must have been busy today because I completely forgot that I was going to take a picture and see if anyone knew what this was! It is now almost one in the morning and I remembered right before I was going to bed! Anyway, my sister gave this to me and I thought it was rather unique and maybe worth something? I think the flowers and leaves are made of glass! I can't make out the lettering on the bottom either. Any clues anyone? I'd appreciate it! I'm off to bed! ~~Pam

  1. Pamela, The first thing I would do is verify if it's glass or not. It may be lucite or acrylic. Heat the end of a pin and stick it in an inconspicuous place. If it doesn't sink in, then it's glass. It looks Asian inspired. Orchids?

  2. HI PAM,

THESE TYPES OF ARRANGEMENTS BECAME VERY POPULAR IN THE 40s AND 50s. MOST ARE MADE OF GLASS BUT A SMALL PORTION ARE MADE OF PLASTIC (LUCITE OR ACRYLIC) THE PLASTICS FEEL "WARM" TO THE TOUCH. GLASS FEELS "COOLER". THE CHINESE HAVE BEEN MAKING ARRANGEMENTS LIKE THESE FROM NATURAL STONE (LAPIZ
ROSE QUARTZ, CARNELIAN AND JADE) STONE FEELS COLD TO THE TOUCH. TO DIFFERENTIATE ALL OF THE EXAMPLES HOLD A PIECE UP TO YOUR CHEEK YOU WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCES. USE A SEMI PRECIOUS NECKLACE TO FEEL THE COOLNESS ON YOUR CHEEK.

    NICE DISPLAY PIECE!
