Frugal Tip of the Day

Don’t buy paper towels! I was just looking through my money program where I keep track of what we spend on. I have a category called “Sundries” and under that I put things that we have to buy like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, detergent, etc….and paper towels! I have been doing this since August of 2004. We don’t really have anything to show for keeping track of all of this but at least I know what we did spend our money on!

One day a long time ago I decided not to buy paper towels anymore, or hardly ever. I figured we could use a rag or towel to wipe up spills or wipe off dirty faces and hands. For the most part, it works to do this. I have had some on hand just in case we have a sick kid in the middle of the night…some things you just want to throw away, right?!! Anyway, we have spent $23.81 on paper towels in the last 9 years….not too bad, huh? Now if I would have bought a roll of paper towels every week at say a $1.00 a roll just to keep it easy, for 9 years I would have spent $468! Since we only spent $23.81 that means we saved $444.19! Wouldn’t it be nice to actually have the money that we save by doing these frugal things? I suppose it went for something more important!

Stop back tomorrow sometime and find out how much we’ve spent on toilet paper! J Remember, we have a big family!

  1. I admit, I'm a paper towel fiend. It's a hard habit to break!

    1. I'll admit that I would love to use them but I just feel like it's one thing I can give up to save a little money! ~~Pam
