If It Ain't One Thing....It's Another!

Yesterday my husband decided to change the brakes on his truck. We really couldn't afford it but he said it would only cost about $35. Long story short, he worked on the brakes, battery was dead, jumped the battery, locked keys in truck, didn't have another key, called locksmith, $53 to unlock the truck, worked on brakes some more, needed another part....I think caliper which cost another $25, then today the battery was dead again so he spent $77 on a new battery so the $35 brake job ended up costing at least $190!!! We should have left well enough alone! I suppose the battery can't really be counted in with that but it just seems like when it rains, it pours!

On kind of a good note, he got a job after all of that! He will be working in a warehouse running a fork truck. But, the pay is terrible. I suppose you could say it's better than nothing but it's over half of what he was making before he lost his job. It makes me sick! He's a hard worker and it's just not fair. Hopefully he can find something else eventually but in the meantime I guess this will help out. I just really need to up my time spent listing. My goal today was to list 4 things in my Ebay store, 3 in my Vintage shop and 3 in my Button shop. I took lots of pictures and started editing them but I only got 2 new things listed on Ebay and 2 on DownVintageLane. I did get a late start because we were gone this morning. We also had some company today so that kinda put a wrench in the works. Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish listing what I took pictures of today and get even more ready.

I did sell 2 things today!

Apple Platter and 8 Apple fruit bowls - Paid $2.00 - Sold for $17.50
Profit after fees and packaging - $9.54

3 Ball Half Gallon Jars - Paid $3.00 - Sold for $21.00
Profit after fees and packaging - $19.21
These jars were kinda shabby with some knicks around the rim so I sold them for less than usual.

Thanks for letting me bend your ear about our truck woes! Hopefully that will be the end of repairs for awhile! Thanks for stopping by! ~~Pam

  1. I almost thought I was reading my own blog for a second there. lol! If your husband continues to look for a better job, he will probably find one as my husband did. For some strange reason, it's easier to get a job when you already have one. I love your vintage Etsy shop! Great photos!

    1. I've heard that too about it being easier to find a job if you already have one. I sure hope he can find a better one! Thanks for your comment! ~~Pam

  2. I hear you my husbands car state inspection was supposed to cost 500 we didn't have $ for. Instead it cost us 2300. That brings our credit card debt to 10,000. So discouraging when we literally waste nothing. Oh and 4 ebay cases have been opened against me this week. Usps lost a 100 dollar package which apparently I forgot to insure :/

    1. I'm sorry about your ebay cases. I hate when that happens. I've had one this past month but thankfully it turned out well. We have a lot of credit card debt too. That's what's killing us right now. I always wonder how we got ourselves into this mess but I think mostly it was just things like that coming up that we weren't prepared for...that and having 8 kids! Hard to save money for rainy days! ~~Pam

  3. Ugh sorry about all the expenses on the truck. It's good that your husband is able to do the work himself though, that saves a lot. Good for him on the job, I know it is hard when the pay stinks but I think as others have said it is a start & then hopefully he can continue to look for something better. It is hard though, I lost my job 3 years ago & I had the larger income. It has worked out ok for us, I decided that I really do not want to go back & hubby so far is ok with that. I dabble a bit in the stock market & I started doing my ebay sales in January. I am like you though need to spend more time listing, I go out & get the inventory & then it sits for too long before I list it, plus it clutters the house. Hope it all works out for you guys!

    1. Rhonda....it's way more fun to look for inventory than to actually take pictures, edit them and then type up a listing! That's the hardest part for me too. I have quite a bit sitting around here that I need to work on. Maybe by the time yard sale season starts up again I can have my supply whittled down! ~~Pam
